Activity for 100 Homeless and Urban Youth

Make a Difference Day - July 21, 2012

ChristCares.org is grateful to Orland Park Christian Reformed Church for providing a wonderful VBS type of activity for about one hundred homeless and urban youth. Graded programs for all age groups were provided and the event was organized by Cindy Vander Lann. Bob Love of the Chicago Bulls shared a motivational talk and Urban Missionary Scott Reese shared a Bible Lesson.

Christ Cares brought urban youth from Chicago and the south suburbs including groups from Roseland Christian Ministries and New Life Baptist Church. Christ Cares is very grateful for the generosity & many volunteers of OPCRC Church, as well as it’s Christ Cares volunteers and New Life for making this event possible. We also thank First Reformed Church of Lansing for allowing us to use their mini bus.

Chinese Church Thank You – Christ Cares Missions Update July (first half)

South suburban mandarin chinese church – july 8, 2012 had a baptismal service for Frankie and Daniel.

I was honored to do the Baptismal service for these two outstanding Christian young men, Daniel and Frankie. We want to thank Parkview Church for allowing us to use their auditorium and Baptistry for this special occasion. I (Scott Reese) have had the privilege of helping the Chinese for over 25 years on a regular basis. After the service Sister Pauline spoke some kind words.

other highlights of early july:

July 1 – I had the privilege of preaching at East Hazel Crest Bible ChurchThis is a wonderful church that is dear to my heart. When I was born, my dad, Ed Reese was the pastor there. This is also the church that we partner with on Wednesday nights with a youth program. Please pray for this church and their dedicated pastor, Rev. Sam Dallessandro.

July 7 – Monthly Men’s Bible StudyEvery first Saturday of the Month, Christ Cares sponsors a Multicultural Men’s Bible Study and Breakfast. We meet at 8:30 a.m. at New Life Baptist Church of Chicago Heights (1633 Wilson Ave.). After a time of food and fellowship we have a Bible Study that is followed with a time of sharing prayer requests and prayer. Please help spread the word about this encouraging event. It is also a good reflection of the Body of Christ as Christians of different races and denominations come together to encourage each other.

On July 12, I had the privilege of participating in the Board Meeting of Christian Service MinistriesChristian Service Ministries is a ministry of the Christian Reformed Churches in the Chicago South designed to help the local churches work with their local communities at their point of need.  Christian Service Ministries offers training sessions, resources, and encouragement for church deacons and all those with enthusiasm for ministries in their church and community.  Please check out their website for a list of upcoming helpful seminars. I also highly recommend their Resource Guide that lists helpful resources for those in need. CSM is led by Jan Visser and she a been a tremendous help and encouragement to me and Christ Cares through the years. We would also appreciate your prayers for Jan’s nephew, Caleb Vander Ploeg, who was in a very serious car accident.

Sunday, July 15 – I had the privilege of preaching at Rest Haven Nursing Home. I always enjoy my time sharing with these  dear saints… I also want to thank Mrs. Blumer for playing the piano – I am not a gifted singer to say the least so it really helps to have a piano if I lead singing!

volunteers needed! this saturday, july 21 we need drivers (& vans if possible) to help with transportation.

We are blessed and thankful that Orland Park Christian Reformed Church is sponsoring a “Make a Difference Day” (1 day VBS program) at their church and allowing us to bring about 100 homeless and urban youth. Transportation is often one of our biggest challenges so please contact us if you can help. Many thanks to Cindy Vander Laan for planning and coordinating this event! Please pray for us that everyone will have a wonderful time and also that we will all be refreshed not just physically but also spiritually. It is going to be a hot day so I’d also appreciate your prayers for my heart to stay in rhythm and also for my Blood Pressure to stay in check.
